How long have you been in your industry?50 years
Why did you choose your industry?I stumbled into it. I graduated from SMU in December 1973 and planned to attend law school the following fall. Having nine months to kill, I took an entry level job at an advertising agency, fell in love with advertising, and never went to law school.
Who are your typical clients?Businesses that market products or services to older adults
What do you like best about being in this industry?3 things: 1) I get to work at a decision-making level with a variety of businesses; 2) I get to work with a lot of smart, creative people; 3) Every day is different.
What are common problems you see?It is a young-person's industry. Because the majority of workers are under 45 years old, there is a lot of experience and wisdom that has been lost. This especially relates to advertising that targets older people, because young ad creators simply do not understand what motivates older consumers.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Find an advertising agency that truly understands and can relate to your customer. You can have the most creative advertising, but if you are not delivering the right message to the right audience at the right time, your advertising will NOT be effective.

What keeps you up at night?Nothing
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?Mostly online these days, using search engine marketing as well as various LinkedIn products
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?The ad business is a hard business. Make sure it is something you really want to do.
