 James:
Welcome back to Living My Faith on FaithWorks TV. I’m James Fenimore, and joining me today is a very special guest, Diane Faulkner. Diane, how are you?

Diane:
I’m doing well, thanks.

James:
Diane, we like to start with one simple question: How are you living your faith?

Diane:
I live my faith by intentionally integrating it into every aspect of my day. As you noticed before the show started, I had an alarm go off for prayer. I schedule prayer times throughout the day and set alarms so I can excuse myself from whatever I’m doing and focus on that time. I really try to keep God present throughout the day.

I also integrate my faith into my businesses by being intentional about the clients I choose to work with.

James:
I love that. I noticed the prayer alarm, and I really appreciated it. For people watching, can you explain why that’s so important to you? What changes do you see when you dedicate that time to prayer?

Diane:
It centers you. It reduces stress because it pulls you out of whatever situation you’re in and brings your focus back to what truly matters. Whatever is stressing you out in that moment—you give it over. Taking that time to release it makes the rest of the day go much more smoothly.

James:
It sounds like you’re constantly reprioritizing.

Diane:
Exactly—resetting priorities throughout the day.

James:
I really love that. You mentioned your businesses—you’re clearly very busy and running multiple ventures. I imagine that prayer alarm really helps keep everything grounded.

Diane:
Oh, absolutely. The day would fly by without it if I didn’t set reminders.

James:
You also mentioned that you’re selective about who you work with, which is a real privilege. How do you go about that?

Diane:
I try to learn as much as I can about the people I’m prospecting. I look at their mission, their values, and their online presence—especially LinkedIn. Even though it’s a professional platform, there’s a lot of personal insight there. You can learn quite a bit by reading posts and seeing how someone presents themselves. I do a little bit of research before moving forward.

James:
Is there something specific you’re looking for—ethics, faith, values?

Diane:
A combination of both. If someone is truly living their faith, they tend to be ethical people. Those qualities are very intertwined, so I look for both.

James:
That makes sense. Before we go further, tell everyone what you do.

Diane:
One of my businesses is Full Circle Press. I write for various publications and companies, including U.S. News & World Report, Forbes, and LegalZoom. That work ties into my other business, Human Resources Made Easy, because my specialty is employment law.

Before starting my own businesses, I was a vice president at Coastline Federal Credit Union. I began writing back then, and over time it really took off. I became known for my work in employment law, which naturally led to HR consulting.

James:
And what does that look like in practice?

Diane:
I work with small to mid-sized businesses that don’t have an internal HR department. I help them navigate employee issues, policies, and compliance. Most of the time, I walk them through situations over calls, but if they need someone present for a termination or a difficult conversation, I’ll sit in. I also prepare leaders ahead of time so they know what to say—and what not to say.

I help them approach tough conversations in a way that’s factual and respectful, not emotional or reactive. That way, if a termination eventually happens, it’s not a surprise.

James:
That’s such a faithful way to approach difficult situations. Prayer, discernment, and centering yourself beforehand really matter in those moments.

Diane:
Absolutely. I’ll pray in my car before walking into a meeting, then go in and let it unfold.

James:
That’s great advice—not just for HR professionals, but for anyone facing a tough conversation.

Diane:
Definitely. You feel different once you’ve prayed and centered yourself. It shows in how you speak and how the other person receives the conversation. You’re not angry or frustrated—you’re calm, clear, and focused. You’re helping them understand what’s happening and what could happen if things don’t change.

You’re helping them just as much as you’re correcting them.

James:
That turns it into a growth process rather than a one-sided confrontation.

Diane:
Exactly. When I left the corporate world, even people I had terminated came to my goodbye party.

James:
Wow—that says a lot.

Diane:
It really does. Many of them told me later that I was right and that the guidance I gave helped them find a better path. They knew throughout the disciplinary process that I was trying to help them, not punish them—and many of them thrived afterward.

James:
That’s incredible. We’re almost out of time—how can people get in touch with you?

Diane:
They can email me at [email protected], or call me at 904-712-0220.

James:
I hope people reach out. Anyone whose former employees attend their goodbye party is clearly doing something right.

Diane, thank you so much for joining us today.
