James:
Hi and welcome to Living My Faith. I’m James Fenimore. Today we’ve got a great guest for you. Joining me is Jim Mackie. Jim, how are you doing?
Jim:
Good afternoon. Thank you.
James:
So nice to have you here. Jim, we start this show with one simple question. How are you living your faith?
Jim:
How am I living my faith? Well, I’ve been doing it for many, many years. So, got a lot of practice to say. The first 60 years of your life prepares you for everything else you go through. And, I just practice it by trying to, walk with Jesus. I have a new little mantra. I’ve stolen it, but it’s just trying to be with Jesus on a daily basis. Try and become like him and try and do the things that he did.
James:
I love that on my phone, I have, first John two six to remind me all, all who abide in him have to walk like him. And, usually I have to look at that when I’m sitting in traffic, or on a line somewhere. But it’s a great way to. It’s a great way to go about that. How do you remind yourself in the tough moments to walk in his path?
Jim:
I try and I think not to sound cliche, but just trying to remember what he’s done for me. We’re all very unworthy of the grace we’ve been shown. And, just to be grateful each day. That’s something that, kind of try to regenerate lately is just being grateful on a daily basis. Whether it be for my health, my family, my relationships, obviously my faith in God, the people that help, help me along that journey. And, faithful. We’ve got a guide through the scriptures and, most powerfully, the Holy Spirit that works, indwells and works in each of our lives as believers each day.
James:
That’s beautiful. I, a spirit of gratitude, I always say, is like the best way to start your day. Because when you have that gratitude man, it just changes your posture on everything. Do you do anything to remind yourself to be grateful? Like I do a gratitude list with my wife every day. Even when we’re in an argument, believe it or not, I still have to send it. That’s our. That’s our deal. Is there anything that reminds you to do something with gratitude, or do you do anything like that?
Jim:
Sounds like a great idea. No, I don’t I, I think sometimes when I try and wake up in the morning, first thing I do is just pause and be still and be quiet. Reflect upon maybe a passage or, a reading or whatever. That just helps me to be calm and still. And that hopefully will produce gratitude as the day goes on.
James:
I love that. And then, if you could give us maybe some guidance on for people that are new to faith, maybe they’ve just come to Christ. Maybe they’ve come back to Christ after a long time. Is there anything that you could tell them on, you know, just walking like him or just kind of having a spirit of gratitude? Any pointers that you might give them?
Jim:
Well, I think I’ll just go back to one of the first points, I think. One, I’ve worked with a lot of new Christians, a lot of people that have left the church and things like that. And, there’s a lot of church hurt that goes on in the world today. And there’s a lot of hurt in the world, too. A lot of grief going on, but just to, spend that time with Jesus, see what he did, the way he lived his life, the way he depended upon his father on a daily basis, how he spent that time in prayer. And you’re not going to have to figure it all out at once, and you’re not going to, there’s not a step one, two, three that you go through, but it’s a walking by faith on a daily basis.
I think that was instilled in me, in my parents growing up and then being, involved in the church and then going through my own rebellion and then going through, a restoration. So, so to speak, and finally becoming a disciple of Jesus and seeing that’s what it’s really all about. It’s not just, wearing the name Christian. It’s living, like, for and with and like Jesus on a daily basis. It’s what really counts.
James:
I love it. That’s why we have the show living my Faith. Right? We’re going to start wrapping up, but I want to make sure I give you an opportunity to share anything that you wanted to share on this show. Is there anything on your heart that you wanted to just share with us today?
Jim:
I would just encourage people to put into practice what they know to do. And to it’s not about doing a checklist or doing a bunch of stuff. Because we can all become very busy. But, learning to do the little things for other people, to be kind, to be gentle, to practice the fruits of the Holy Spirit, on a daily basis. And it might just be one thing you do, but, make a little difference in one person’s life each day where you can love that.
James:
Thank you so much for joining us today. It’s been a real pleasure. We’ve learned a lot, and I can’t thank you enough. I’m James Fenimore. This has been Living My Faith, and I can’t wait to see you next time.
