One cause especially close to Melissa’s heart is the organization’s Project Love Program. Through Project Love, Seeds of Love Outreach works with Clay County District Schools social workers to provide new clothing, undergarments, and shoes to students in crisis.
Melissa’s connection to this work is deeply personal. As a homeless, pregnant teen at age 16, she did not always have appropriate clothing or shoes and often missed school. She remembers feeling embarrassed and isolated. Through the grace of God, help from strangers, and reconnecting with her mother, she was able to graduate high school.
Today, that experience helps drive her commitment to ensuring students do not go without basic essentials. Since launching Project Love in February 2025, Seeds of Love Outreach has helped 109 children.
A Story of Hope and Practical Support
One volunteer experience that has stayed with Melissa involved a young mother the Seeds of Love Outreach team met during an outreach effort. The mother was overwhelmed as she struggled to provide for her family. She shared that she could not find work and felt ready to give up.
The team surrounded her with encouragement, prayer, needed items, and referrals for additional support. She arrived feeling defeated but left with renewed strength. A few weeks later, the team saw her again, and she surrendered her life to Christ. Seeds of Love Outreach provided next steps material and shipped a study Bible to her home.
Soon after, she called Melissa to share that she had secured a job and to thank the team for standing with her during a difficult time.
Leadership Shaped by Service and Discipline
Melissa is also a veteran, and her time in the Marines continues to influence her life and leadership. She shared that the Marines instilled values, hard work, and discipline, giving her confidence as she transitioned into a new chapter after military service.
Those lessons continue to shape her life today, including spiritually, and are evident in the mission-driven work of Seeds of Love Outreach.
