Short company description:
Real Estate, Design and Construction are difficult and frequently people lose transparency and control, their risk increases and they pay more and take longer….without ever knowing that it should have been done better or that they didn’t get what was promised. I’m basically a project’s guardian angel, I work exclusively for the owner, not the broker, designer or builder. I manage the entire process and ensure there are no bad actors and if there are, we have the contracts and mechanisms in place to apply pressure and get a team win. Building is a team sport, the Athletic Director may write the checks, but he doesn’t know enough to be the Offensive or Defensive Coordinator. I am both, Residentially, Commercially or Industrially.
How do you define success?
In the built environment, success is when the entire team wins. Everyone will give a little, but if the designers, builders, trades and my client all love the outcome, that’s success. And, like most team sports, early preparation, careful planning and hard work lead to success.
What lessons from sports have you applied to your personal life and career?
Dozens. I was a three sport letterman in high school (RELee, now Riverside) and played football and wrestled collegiately. As I said, building is a team sport, life isnt all wins, neither is building, but if you know how to turn a loss into a gain….Success begins with a fellows will, its all in a state of mind.
What strategies do you use to improve your performance?
I can’t do my job with my mind, it takes my body and spirit. If I dont workout at least 4-5 times a week, I lose focus, if I dont stop to smell the roses or throw the dog the ball, my mind wanders, if I dont eat well….the whole operation shuts down. Life isnt a spectator sport, living is doing, doing is performing.
Can You Discuss a Time When You Had to Work with a Team to Achieve a Goal?
Every single project. And that work occurs at the Macro level, with the married couple that wants a new home or the C-suite, at the professional level with the designers and contractors, and sometimes at the micro/granular level…when carpenters or electricians…the trades….get involved. All have unique challenges, all are equally as important, the carpenter’s work is just as important as the architect’s…..In My Opinion.
