Why did you choose your industry?Joe's father has used a wheelchair for his entire life, and Joe noticed how his father was treated differently from the rest of his family and that the world was not designed for people with disabilities in mind. He founded VisitAble, to create more welcoming and inclusive environments for all, by working to remove barriers and change attitudes related to disability.
Who are your typical clients?Destination Marketing Organizations, local law enforcement entities, public health departments, and tour operators.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I'm helping to make the world a better place, to create more opportunities, accessibility, and independence for the disability community.
What are common problems you see?Many people doing training only offer it in-person, which makes it sometimes to get everyone together. Sometimes, companies don't get their frontline staff important education on disability etiquette and accessibility best practices, or training isn't provided for the employee-to-employee experience, making the workforce culture not as ideal.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I work with associations and membership-based organizations who have a membership of organizations that are my customers. I hope to also appear on more podcasts, create more written and video content to promote on social media platforms, and eventually generate backlinks as well to be more easily discoverable.
