Defeat Cancer ACCCOLPH
What is the core mission of your organization? The core mission of Defeat Cancer Acccolph, Inc. is to increase cancer awareness. Through education, advocacy, and community outreach, we strive to help people better understand the importance of prevention, early detection, and informed health decisions. Our goal is to empower communities with knowledge that can lead to earlier diagnoses, better outcomes, and ultimately save lives.
How do you measure impact and success in your programs? We measure impact and success by the awareness we create and the lives we reach. Success is reflected in the number of people we educate through our outreach efforts, community events, social media engagement, and awareness campaigns. We also look at how many individuals take action by learning more about cancer prevention, seeking early screenings, sharing information with others, or becoming advocates themselves. For Defeat Cancer Acccolph, success is about increasing awareness, empowering communities with knowledge, and encouraging proactive health decisions that can save lives.
What are your biggest fundraising or outreach challenges? Our biggest challenges are increasing awareness and securing the resources needed to expand our outreach. As a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we work hard to educate more people about the importance of cancer awareness, prevention, and early detection. Limited funding and competing for attention in a crowded digital world can make it difficult to reach everyone who could benefit from our message.
To overcome these challenges, we focus on building strong community partnerships, engaging supporters through social media and events, and sharing authentic stories that inspire people to take action. Every new person we reach brings us one step closer to our mission of increasing cancer awareness and helping save lives through education.
How do you build long-term relationships with donors and supporters? We build long-term relationships with donors and supporters by keeping them connected to our mission and the impact of their support. We focus on regular communication, transparency, and meaningful engagement through community events, awareness campaigns, social media, and personal outreach.
We want our supporters to feel like partners in the fight against cancer, not just contributors. By sharing real stories, celebrating successes, and showing how increased awareness can make a difference, we create lasting relationships built on trust, shared purpose, and a commitment to
What trends are influencing the nonprofit world today? One of the biggest trends influencing the nonprofit world today is the growing demand for transparency and measurable impact. Donors want to see how their contributions are making a difference, and organizations are expected to communicate their results clearly and consistently. For Defeat Cancer Acccolph, these trends reinforce the importance of using technology, storytelling, and community partnerships to increase cancer awareness and reach more people with life-saving information
Can you share a story that shows your mission in action? One story that truly reflects our mission involves a fellow Air Force veteran and friend. I learned that he had experienced a heartbreaking tragedy, the loss of his son. When I heard the news, I reached out to offer my condolences. A day or two later, I visited him, and we spent several hours talking. He was understandably devastated and struggling with the weight of his loss.
During our conversation, he asked me about prostate cancer. As a survivor, I shared my experience, explained the warning signs, and talked about the importance of getting checked and understanding your options. A few months later, he was diagnosed with Stage 1 prostate cancer.
Because I had already gone through that journey, I was able to help guide him through some of the challenges and decisions he faced. Based on my own positive experience, I recommended that he look into UF Health Proton Therapy Institute. He ultimately chose proton therapy for his treatment.
Today, he is cancer-free.
To me, that is what Defeat Cancer Acccolph is all about. Our mission is to increase cancer awareness through education and personal connection. A simple conversation can lead to knowledge, action, early detection, and ultimately save a life. Knowing that sharing my story helped someone take action and achieve a successful outcome is one of the most meaningful examples of our mission in action.
What keeps you motivated in this work? What keeps me motivated is knowing that awareness can save lives. As a cancer survivor, I’ve seen firsthand how information, early detection, and the right support can change someone’s outcome.
I think about people like my Air Force veteran friend who was grieving the loss of his son when we had a conversation about prostate cancer. That conversation led him to get checked, receive a Stage 1 diagnosis, pursue treatment, and today he is cancer-free. Stories like that remind me that a single conversation can make a life-changing difference.
Every time I share my experience, educate someone about cancer, or encourage a person to be proactive about their health, I have an opportunity to help save a life. That’s what motivates me every day and why I remain passionate about the mission of Defeat Cancer Acccolph.
