Can you share a moment or experience that significantly deepened or shaped your faith journey?
Yes, as a Pastor, since we moved from our former location (Philips Hwy) to our new location (Atlantic Blvd., Century 21 area), we’ve been rebuilding, almost starting over. With the remaining faithful members and a strained budget, God worked a miracle. Donations from everywhere poured in as a sign of God’s faithfulness. Paint, donated. Sheetrock, donated. Nails, glue, and new carpet, donated. Sound equipment, donated. Labor, donated. God opened these doors to remind us, “I am with you, even when others leave. Now’s not the time to stop but to persevere in faith.” His instructions to me were clear “steward and disciple well this remnant, and watch what I do through your faithfullness, and for my glory”.
In what ways do you actively live out your faith in your daily life — at work, home, or in your community?
At work, I look for opportunities to build relationships that, at the right time, will allow me to preach the gospel and use words only when necessary. I’m in my home, and I am being reminded to follow Jesus’ leading and become the chief servant to my wife and children. In my personal business, which is built around trauma-informed care, I endeavor to continue developing spaces for pastors and leaders to gather for prayer and encouragement, find community, and begin to unpack their personal traumas as they lead the flock of Christ through the same process.
What encouragement or scripture has been especially meaningful to you in this season, and why?
Psalms 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
My recent discoveries in prayer and time with the Lord have been all about the power of gratitude, the dangers of pride, and how one destroys the other. Gratitude is the bedrock of contentment. Learning to be mindful and thankful for what we DO have, even if, in the moment, it doesn’t feel adequate or like it is enough to make us feel satisfied. Contentment says, “Lord, thank you for THIS. Help me be grateful for it because it could be another way.” Gratitude DESTROYS complaining and pride. Pride, on the other hand, destroys gratitude and contentment. Pride says, “Look at all I’ve done/given, and this is what I get in return? I deserve more…” which could be true, but it opens the door for pride, self-focused comparisons, and shines the light on “this is not enough”, which may be the result of the “I am not enough” voice in our heads.
What advice would you give to someone who’s struggling to live out their faith or looking to grow spiritually?
Make your request known to God. He knows your prayers even before you pray them, but pray them anyway. Ask, Seek, Knock (ASK), degrees of hunger and deparation. Blessed is the man who hungers and thirsts after righteousness, for he SHALL be filled. We provide the desire, God does the filling.
