About Glass EffectGlass Effect builds custom internal tools for small businesses in Jacksonville that have outgrown spreadsheets. We turn the way your shop already works into software that fits it, with nothing to configure and no per-seat subscription.
What differentiates you from the competition?I don't sell a product you have to bend your business around. The suites like monday.com and ClickUp make you configure their idea of a workflow and charge per seat forever. The industry-specific tools are built and priced for companies ten times your size. I sit down with you, learn how your shop actually runs, and build that. Flat cost, no configuration, nothing to maintain on your end. And I've spent 18 years building software people use every day, so the tool is designed, not just coded.
What are your top selling services or products that your company offers?Every tool I build is one of a kind because it's your process, not a template. A production checklist for a live-event company looks nothing like a job tracker for a fab shop, and neither of them should. The other thing: it's done fast. AI coding agents do the building under my direction, so a first working version is weeks, not months, and changes after launch are quick.
If you had one message to get across to future customers, what would it be?Your business already has a process. It should have software to match.
What is the biggest marketing challenge that you will face in the upcoming year?Getting in front of owners who don't know custom software is an option for a company their size. Most 10 to 50 person shops assume the choice is a spreadsheet or a big subscription like monday.com, so they never go looking for a third option. My job this year is warm introductions and referrals, one owner at a time, until enough people in Jacksonville have seen what a tool built around their process actually looks like.

What is the biggest operational challenge that you will face in the upcoming year? Staying a one-person shop while the client list grows. The building side scales because agents do the coding. The part that doesn’t scale is me sitting with each owner to understand their process, and that’s the part that makes the work good. Figuring out how many clients I can serve well at once is the problem for this year.

What technologies are having the biggest impact on IT right now? AI coding agents. Two years ago a custom tool for a 20-person business cost more than the business would ever get out of it. Now the code is the cheap part. What still costs something is knowing what to build, and that’s the part I’ve done for 18 years.

How do you ensure cybersecurity and data protection across systems? Keep it small. Every client gets their own isolated app and database on its own server, nothing shared between customers, with encrypted off-site backups running continuously. No third-party plugins, no per-seat logins to manage, no data sold or shared. A tool that only does one thing has a lot less to go wrong.

What trends are driving digital transformation? For small businesses, it’s the cost of custom software collapsing. The shops I work with never had a “digital transformation” budget. They had a spreadsheet, and the choice was to keep it or buy a subscription that doesn’t fit. Now there’s a third option, and I think that changes how a lot of small companies run in the next five years.

How are you managing cloud infrastructure and scalability? One server per client, sized for their business, not for a hypothetical million users. A 30-person shop doesn’t need to scale. It needs to be up, be fast, and be backed up. Boring infrastructure is a feature.

What’s your approach to innovation and problem-solving in IT? Start with how the work actually happens, not how the software thinks it should. Watch the crew, find the spreadsheet that really runs the day, and build that. Most problems in small-business software come from the tool, not the people.
