About Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board
The Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board consists of nine members, appointed for four-year terms, who are chosen to represent industry, conservationist organizations, professional engineers, the medical profession, and the general public. This board serves as the regulatory agency for environmental matters and develops regulations necessary for administration and enforcement of the city’s environmental laws. It monitors investigations of complaints conducted by the Environmental Quality Division, takes testimony in matters under its jurisdiction, and provides a hearing platform for environmental matters within the city.
What differentiates you from the competition?
I would not say that we have any competition per se. What is unique about the JEPB is that it has both state and local authority for environmental matters in Duval County. They have penalty authority which allows them to assess up to $10,000 per day per violation of their rules. As such, their orders are final and if challenged, must be settled in court.
What are your top selling services or products that your company offers?
Not applicable
What is the biggest marketing challenge that you will face in the upcoming year?
Making the community aware of the existence of the JEPB and the rules that they have promulgated to establish standards that must be met.
What are the biggest challenges your department is currently facing? Uncertainty of how the City of Jacksonville will carry out the enforcement of the JEPB rules and regulations if Amendment 3 passes.
How are you engaging with the community or citizens you serve? We work with community organizations to share information through presentations, festivals and sponsorships. We also conduct an environmental symposium annually which brings together environmental professionals, regulatory officials, state and local government officials, academic community, nonprofits and the general public.
