How long have you been in your industry?34 years
Why did you choose your industry?I believe in justice for everyone. I was raised Christian and always enjoyed the David v Goliath stories. I love championing the "little guy" or "under dog" against the big companies and insurance industries with their armies of lawyers.
Who are your typical clients?Humble, honest folks who were injured through no fault of their own due to the negligence or carelessness of others
What do you like best about being in this industry?Helping the little guy/underdog achieve justice
What are common problems you see?TV advertising. Almost without fail that has ruined the legal industry. They do a volume biz to support them spending millions of dollars on TV ads. Therefore they take EVERY case and settle it for cheap. Quantity vs quality. In asbestos or auto cases, i can't begin to tell you how many times the adjustors say "your competitor accepted this much money for the exact same case, why won't you?"
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Stay patient as handling the case correctly for max results takes some time. Be totally honest and forthcoming with all facts and details of the case. You can still win if you are 40% at fault and the other side is 60% at fault but if you hide those facts, it hurts the case.
When is your busy season?24/7/365
What keeps you up at night?worrying about cases
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? We really haven't until we hired Client Focus. We have done some advertising in the Daily Record, The Villages, sponsoring charity events and public radio, but mostly it is positive word of mouth
How involved are you in the community?CAP, HEAL, Guardian ad Litem, JALA, volunteering legal service to veterans. Previously i was heavily involved with Sulzbacher Homeless Shelter until they moved and Special Olympics I host the neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt for approximately 250 kids and parents yearly at my house.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?I am currently on the non profit boards of Cathedral Arts Project (CAP), Helping Enrich Autistic Lives (HEAL) and Jacksonville Legal Aid (JALA)
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business? If you are doing it for the money, then don't become a lawyer. There are plenty of better ways to make more money, working less time and having less stress. If you are doing it to champion the underdog and obtain justice for all, then the legal field is a good fit for you.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?spending time with my grandchildren, exercise (I still want to do one more Ironman before I hang that up--hopefully in 2025 when i turn 60); weight lifting, snow skiing, reading books, windsurfing,
