Tell me a time you failed forward and what you learned from the experience

Once, barriers to admitting a patient to our rehab hospital were not identified as early as they could have been. This made the process more challenging and delayed getting a clear answer to the referral source. I realized that I needed to be more proactive in identifying potential barriers, communicating with the interdisciplinary team, and making sure the necessary information was available early in the process. From that experience, I learned the importance of asking the right questions upfront, anticipating challenges, and maintaining communication throughout the referral process. It helped me become more organized and proactive, while keeping the patient’s needs and appropriate clinical placement at the center of every decision.

What are your biggest obstacles and barriers to success?

Dealing with insurance companies trying to get authorization can be a barrier in addition to patients not being identified as potential rehab candidates by the treatment team at the acute care hospital.

What is the proudest moment of your leadership career?

Developing and strengthening relationships while building trust with referral sources and key decision makers in order to achieve stronger collaboration and help patients get the healthcare resources they need to be sucessful.
