How long have you been in your industry?35

Why did you choose your industry?As a licensed Clinical Psychologist, I have a passion for helping individuals who live with mental health and/or substance use disorders. We can no longer silo mental health from physical health care needs as they are intertwined. It's important to break the stigma and raise awareness on the importance of reaching out for support when struggling with behavioral health issues. LSF Health Systems manages 93 outstanding provider organizations in 23 counties that serve North Central/NE Florida.

Who are your typical clients?LSF Health Systems serves individuals that live with mental health and/or substance use disorders and are uninsured or underinsured. We serve children, adolescents, adults, seniors, and families through our network of behavioral health provider organizations.

What do you like best about being in this industry?Meeting the needs of our clients and our communities we serve. I enjoy our collaborations with law enforcement, school systems, public officials, legislators, judicial systems, and others as we all work together to provide help, hope and healing. I am blessed to work with an incredible team and outstanding Board of Directors.

What are common problems you see?Often our funding does not keep up with the growing needs of our clients and communities. We strive to be able to offer our clients the right treatment at the right time in the right setting. We are grateful to our legislature who recognizes the need for behavioral health services and appreciate the increases in funding since the pandemic.

What advice/tips do you have for clients?Never give up hope as services are available regardless of your ability to pay. We have an Access to Care Line which is available 24/7 and our clinicians will connect you to the resources in your community. The number is: 1-877-229-9098. You do not have to go through difficult times on your own. Help is available and it is a sign of strength to reach out for support when needed.

When is your busy season?We are busy every season and are available to help.

What keeps you up at night?Worrying that those who do not seek help lose hope and continue to suffer therefore affecting family members and loved ones.

How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?We have a Training Institute that provides a myriad of seminars that raise awareness of important behavioral health topics. We also apply for numerous local state and federal grants to expand services in our communities. The media has been an important vehicle to reduce stigma and promote the various services available for those that live with mental health and/or substance use disorders.

How involved are you in the community?I have the pleasure of serving on numerous boards and councils including Chair of UNF's Brooks College of Health Dean's Council. I also enjoy mentoring students and currently am on two Doctoral Dissertation committees. I also serve on the Board of Partnership for Child Health, Florida Chamber Foundation Board, Florida Smart Justice Alliance Board, and am a Leadership Florida Alumnus.

What is your favorite not for profit or charity?LSF Health Systems

What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?There is no other profession I would recommend more highly than the behavioral health field. One is literally saving lives and providing hope and healing for the clients they serve. We have a national behavioral health workforce shortage crisis so now is the perfect time to consider joining this profession.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Travel, beach, reading, spending time with my pets.
