How long have you been in your industry?5 years
Why did you choose your industry? After decades in executive leadership, I realized the work I found most rewarding was helping leaders navigate complex problems, see situations more clearly, and make better decisions. Consulting and coaching allow me to bring that experience to organizations at pivotal moments—whether they are navigating growth, change, governance challenges, or determining what comes next.
Who are your typical clients? My clients are executives, business owners, nonprofit leaders, and boards navigating growth, change, or organizational complexity. They typically value an experienced outside perspective to help clarify strategy, strengthen leadership and governance, solve operational challenges, and turn difficult or ambiguous situations into practical action.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I enjoy helping leaders make sense of complex situations and find a clear path forward. Every organization and leadership challenge is different, so the work is never formulaic. I get to listen, ask the right questions, bring an experienced outside perspective, and help turn ideas or uncertainty into decisions and action. Seeing that clarity translate into stronger organizations is rewarding.
What are common problems you see?I often see organizations grow or change faster than their leadership structures and operating practices evolve. Roles become unclear, strategy gets disconnected from execution, and leaders spend too much time reacting instead of leading. An outside perspective can help identify what is getting in the way and restore clarity, accountability, and direction.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Don’t wait until a challenge becomes a crisis to ask for an outside perspective. Be willing to step back from the day-to-day and ask whether your strategy, structure, and priorities still support where you are trying to go. Surround yourself with people who will ask difficult questions, challenge your assumptions, and tell you what you need to hear—not simply what you want to hear.
When is your busy season?Consulting doesn’t have a traditional busy season. Demand tends to increase around strategic planning and budgeting cycles, leadership transitions, periods of rapid growth or organizational change, and at the beginning of the year when leaders are reassessing priorities and determining what needs to change.
What keeps you up at night?Seeing good organizations and capable leaders struggle because they waited too long to address a problem they knew was there. I think about how to help leaders recognize those inflection points earlier, have the difficult conversations, and act while they still have good options.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I grow my business primarily through relationships, referrals, and visibility. I stay active in business, nonprofit, and civic leadership, write and speak on issues where I have expertise, and look for opportunities to demonstrate how I think and solve problems. My goal is to build credibility and trusted relationships so the right clients know who to call when they need help.
How involved are you in the community?I’m deeply involved in Northeast Florida’s business, nonprofit, and civic community. I serve on the United Way of St. Johns and Putnam Counties Board, chair the St. Johns County Chamber’s Public Policy Committee, and serve on its Board of Directors. I’m also active in attainable housing, economic development, and nonprofit leadership.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?United Way is especially meaningful to me because of its broad community impact. It brings together nonprofits, businesses, donors, and community leaders to address interconnected challenges. I’ve had the privilege of serving United Way in different capacities over the years and value its ability to bring people and resources together around community needs.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Build real experience before trying to advise others. Clients aren’t paying for generic answers—they’re paying for judgment, perspective, and the ability to help them see what they may be missing. Learn to listen before offering solutions, ask good questions, and be comfortable telling clients what they need to hear. Most importantly, know where your experience genuinely adds value.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I enjoy reading, writing, exploring the arts, spending time by the pool, and discovering more of what Northeast Florida has to offer. I also enjoy traveling and spending time with family. After years of demanding roles and schedules, I’ve learned to appreciate quiet time to think, recharge, and occasionally do absolutely nothing—which I’m still learning to be good at.
