How long have you been in your industry?25 years as an Occupational Therapist, 4 years as business owner
Why did you choose your industry?I have always wanted to help others. I initially wanted to be a Special Education Teacher, but was intrigued when a College Professor mentioned Occupational Therapy. I went to the library to research (pre-Google) and decided that it was what I wanted to do. I have been an OT for 25 years now. I started my own business in 2020 to be my own boss and provide quality services to people in my community.
Who are your typical clients?Older adults who need Physical, Occupational, and/or Speech Therapy services and would like to have the services provided in their homes.
What do you like best about being in this industry?Helping others be as safe and independent as possible in their homes.
What are common problems you see?Corporations (insurances, therapy companies) who view patients as dollar signs. Services are not driven by patients' needs, but rather by increasing their own profit margins.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?Provide business cards and brochures to Doctors' offices, hospitals, home health agencies, and outpatient therapy clinics who do not offer mobile therapy services. Follow up with referral sources with thank you notes and solicit information from them regarding their Patients' needs.
